KIDS CLASSES
& WORKSHOPS

Helping Kids realize their creative potential!

The CAA schedules a variety of classes throughout the year geared toward kids ages 6 & up!  We try to accommodate busy year round schedules with both after school classes and summer programming.  Our teachers will encourage your kids with fun, project driven lessons, leaving plenty of room for personal expression and creativity!  We hold our classes in our Classroom upstairs above the gallery, on the third floor of the Village Hall.  Scholarships are available, please reach out to us for more details!

Kid's Art Camp! with Emilie Rigby
Monday - Friday, 1:00 - 3:30pm  |  August 15 - 19  |  Children Age 9-14
Members $30/day or $145/week | Non-Members $35/day or $170/week

This year for kids art week, we are blending art with science and nature observation. We will meet at the art association classroom, and many of the classes will have an outdoor component. Please bring weather appropriate clothing, a water bottle, and a snack if you would like. This is a great opportunity to get out of the house, meet some new friends, and learn about the natural world and how to use it as inspiration for your art!

To pre-register, please call the CAA at 607-547-9777.
All materials included except unlined notebook required for Aug. 15th class

Monday, August 15:  Nature Journaling
Spend the afternoon observing the wonders of the natural world in order to enhance your drawing
and naturalist skills, through a series of fun and short activities and challenges. Bring an unlined
notebook to start filling with drawings and notes on the wonders you find!

Tuesday, August 16:  Botanical Illustration pt.1
In this workshop, students will learn the basics of botanical illustration through a series of still life
"prompts.” We will focus on how to translate an image accurately onto the page so that it can be
recognized by people who view it. We will be working with pencil, pen and ink and adding color.

Wednesday, August 17:  Tree ID
Have you ever wanted to know what tree you are looking at? There are over 950 tree species native
to North America, each with their own unique characteristics. This class will introduce the basics of
tree identification and set you up with the skills you need to keep learning!

Thursday, August 18:  Botanical Illustration pt.2
Build upon the foundational skills from part one in order to work on a more  detailed long-form
botanical illustration project. Students will have a wide range of subjects to choose from, or are
   welcome to bring their own.

Friday, August 19:  Drawing and Painting at the Lake
Spend a relaxing afternoon drawing and painting by the lake. We will meet at the Art Association
and bring along our favorite art mediums to Lakefront Park. Students are welcome to work on a self
guided piece or participate in the group prompts.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Emilie Rigby will be instructing a five day summer camp style set of classes this summer at the CAA! This is perfect for children looking to get out of the house for a week and explore the creativity within them. Each day offers a new experience, a chance to learn a new set of skills, and an excuse to explore the natural beauty of our environment. Emilie is well-versed in the art of blending the natural world around us into meaningful artistic expression, and will aim to spark the creative drive within the children who sign-up for her camp sessions. Emilie has a wealth of knowledge on all of these subjects and will be providing plenty of demonstrations, examples, and personalized instruction for your children to get the most out of this week long session.
