T
he Cooperstown Art Association is alive and well!
The small gallery and offices of the Cooperstown Art Association have sustained extensive water damage due to a steam leak and as a result the downstairs space is no longer accessible. At this time we are unsure how long and involved the renovation and remediation process will be. Until further notice all upcoming exhibits will take place in the upstairs ballroom gallery C and we will be operating under a reduced exhibit schedule as a result. The CAA offices are now located in our upstairs classroom space/storage space on the left at the top of the stairs. We are taking this unfortunate circumstance as an opportunity to re-assess the use of our space, to make it better and more professional as we go forward.
“An Artistic Discovery” the Congressional Art Competition for Otsego County High School Students will be on display in Gallery C through March 26. So come out and celebrate the wealth of talent that Otsego County students have to offer, color and creativity abound in all media brightening up the month of March! “An Artistic Discovery” is a high school art competition held within the 24th Congressional District by county. Six students will be receiving ribbons for their work at the CAA and will go on to exhibit at Munson - Williams - Proctor Art Institute School of Art Gallery joined by student artwork from Broome, Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Herkimer, Oneida, Ontario, Seneca, Tioga and Tompkins Counties. From there one student’s work will go on to be displayed in the corridor leading to the US Capitol along with 49 other high-school artists’ work from across the country. Stop in and see this exciting and fresh exhibit of work by the young aspiring artists of Otsego County.
In light of our current situation the CAA is in need of your support more than ever. If you haven’t already, please consider giving a donation or renewing your membership for 2010. We are still alive and well in the Village Library Building at 22 Main Street and our Ballroom Gallery and offices are accessible from every level by way of the stairs or the elevator. Wheelchair accessibility is available via the Police entrance on Fair Street.
The Cooperstown Art Association is located at the Village Library Building at 22 Main Street, diagonally across the street from the National Baseball Hall of Fame. For more information and updates please call us at 607-547-9777.
