“In Motion” will feature paintings by Christopher Murray of Niskayuna and metal sculpture by Akira Niitsu of East Springfield. Though working in different mediums, both artists produce artwork that is full of life and movement. Murray’s abstract paintings are buzzing with energy, from the colors he uses to the shapes that move your eye around the canvas. Though more subtle, his most recent work, inspired by Japanese landscape paintings, play with the forces of shifting balance and movement. Providing a wonderful balance to Murray’s vibrancy are Niitsu’s sublime metal sculptures, full of gentle purposeful curves. Niitsu has been working in his medium for more than 30 years, exploring spatial relationships and developing a wonderful sense of gesture.

“Possum’s Persimmon Picnic”, in Gallery B, is a unique series of linocut prints by Mary Lou Ganio of Roseboom. In her own words, Ganio states, “The seeds for this body of work were sown many years as I listened to the story of ‘Polly Possum’ and her persimmons in the 1917 book of Peter Rabbit at the Farm, a book that belonged to my father when he was a child. The image of Polly sat in my brain through my years as an art student in college, while I mothered my own children, and while I read to countless other children during my years as a prekindergarten teacher.” All are invited to come to a Tea & Talk on Sunday, April 22nd at 3:00pm to meet Ganio, and hear some of the stories behind her work in “Possum’s Persimmon Picnic.”
